How did we come up with our beliefs? The role of Leadership is to simplify the complex! What good are visions, missions, and deeply held beliefs if no one can remember them? Test us! Next time you talk to a SilcoTek’ian, ask them to recite the ZIP Code, Deep Water beliefs and ask them to explain what they mean. Here is what they will (or should!) say.
SilcoTek’s Vision and Mission provides the drive for the team to excel in what we do. “Driving innovation to exceed limits” is our genetic code for pushing ourselves to invent new ways to advance the properties of materials. “Expanding material limits to make the world a better place” is our genetic code for creating purpose in what we do. Our Vision and Mission helps us go fast, go far, and make a difference!
The ZIP code provides an easy way for SilcoTekians to drive their every day behaviors. A ZIP code is a set of numbers that allows shippers worldwide to pinpoint an exact location quickly. “Code” implies non-negotiable conduct or a set of beliefs. SilcoTek’s ZIP Code creates the acronym that communicates speed with accuracy to satisfy customers unconditionally.
SilcoTek’s Deeply Held Beliefs uses the FISHING acronym to tie what we like to do with what we believe in. Gary Barone has finished near the top of numerous Bass Fishing tournaments year after year. Many of us enjoy fishing and love the outdoors. Deep water beliefs are our Core Values. They are the beliefs that define us as human beings and the way we treat other human beings.
Fast Failure
Our first belief is “Fast Failure” as opposed to slow stupid repeated failure. We admit and learn from our mistakes! “In the Light” defines our corporate culture where leadership shares financial information, business plans, and practices open communication. For instance, any employee can ask to see the President’s (or anyone else’s) expense account. It also means employees are encouraged and rewarded when they question management’s decisions.

Never stop Learning is a belief that we have that places accountability on every employee to learn new things every year. We believe the role of leadership is to help every employee write their resume and make themselves more valuable. God forbid, but if something were to happen to SilcoTek, every one of our employees could get a good job elsewhere because they kept their skills sharp. We believe security lies in the abilities of our people.

Give it all you got is self explanatory! We are careful to hire exuberant individuals who go the extra mile, who exude positive energy, and who have fun every day at their jobs. You can’t enjoy “coming to work every day as much as going home” if you don’t take time to laugh and enjoy your work.

We wanted to share our “Deep Water Fishing Expectations” as well. These expectations further define what we expect out of each other. They are discussed during employee coaching sessions and are discussed in detail during performance reviews. None of us is perfect but all of us strive for perfection! The Deep Water Fishing Expectations provide a checklist for the things we are working to improve in our daily lives.
