Stop Permeation, Improve Analyzer Reliability and Inertness

SilcoTek® direct line partner O'Brien Analytical recently studied permeation effects on sample reliability of heat trace tubing.  The study quantified the permeation rate of CO through fluoropolymer (PTFE) heat trace tubing.  The study found a dramatic increase in permeation rate when tubing temperature exceeded 300F.  The study also noted permeation decreased over time; requiring significant burn-in to control permeation rate. 

CO permeation can be reduced by:

  • Maintain tube temperature below 300F
  • Increase wall thickness
  • Burn-in tubing for 7 days
  • Use alternative inert materials such as SilcoNert® 2000 lined stainless steel tubing.

SilcoNert® 2000 coated tubing eliminates CO permeation:

  • Expand temperature limits, heat tube to 840F.
  • No wall thickness change required.
  • Eliminate burn-in and down time.
