A recent study by the Olavi Vaittinen of the University of Helsinki, Finland compared ammonia adsorption rates of common materials used in sample transfer and analysis. The study concluded that SilcoNert® 2000 ranked among the most inert surfaces for ammonia sampling. Compared to high durability surfaces and common tubing materials, SilcoNert 2000 ranked best overall for low level ammonia inertness and adsorption.
The importance of ammonia inertness.
Adsorptive surfaces will retain ammonia, creating artificially low analyzer and process monitor results. This can lead to regulatory compliance issues or poor performance in sour gas stripping operations. High sulfur content in process feedstock can disrupt downstream operations or poison catalysts.
