Notak® 2000 is SilcoTek’s most hydrophobic surface treatment, engineered to significantly reduce surface energy and create a non-wetting surface.
Unlike traditional coatings that add measurable thickness, Notak 2000 is applied as an ultra-thin surface treatment using chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Rather than forming a thick layer, the treatment modifies the surface at a molecular level, resulting in a uniform, conformal finish that preserves the original dimensions of the part.
This ultra-thin structure allows Notak 2000 to deliver performance without impacting tolerances, making it especially useful for complex geometries, small internal diameters, and precision components.
The resulting surface repels both water and hydrocarbons, helping prevent materials from spreading, sticking, or building up over time.

Why Surface Energy Matters
Surface energy plays a major role in how materials interact. High-energy surfaces, such as untreated stainless steel, tend to attract and retain liquids, particles, and contaminants. This leads to fouling, increased maintenance, and reduced system efficiency.
By lowering surface energy, Notak 2000 creates a surface that resists wetting and adhesion. Liquids are more likely to bead and shed rather than spread, and contaminants are less likely to stick.
This shift in surface behavior can significantly improve system cleanliness, consistency, and long-term performance.
Key Benefits of Notak 2000
One of the primary advantages of Notak 2000 is its hydrophobicity. As our most hydrophobic offering, Notak repels unwnted build-ups of water, ice, hydrocarbons, and other foulants.
Notak 2000 is notable for its ability to reduce fouling. By limiting how easily materials adhere to surfaces, it helps prevent buildup that can interfere with heat transfer, flow, or measurement accuracy.
Notak 2000 also improves cleanability. Residues are easier to remove, which can reduce downtime and the need for aggressive cleaning processes.
Another important benefit is its ability to maintain performance at elevated temperatures. This makes it suitable for demanding environments where both thermal stability and release properties are required.
Because the treatment is extremely thin, it also maintains tight tolerances and does not interfere with part fit or function.
Notak 2000 is a niche coating solution with limited durability and is not suitable for typical industrial applications, but it provides powerful surface engineering for laboratory, research, analytical, and other applications that require maximum hydrophobicity but aren’t subjected to abrasion or wear.
Notak 1000 vs. Notak 2000 - What is the Difference?
You may have noticed that we rolled out an original version of Notak on our website previously. With increasingly strict regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), we have optimized the Notak process to remove PFAS. PFAS are widely used "forever" chemicals in consumer and industrial products, like cosmetics, non-stick cookware, food packaging, weatherproof clothing, and other common products people encounter every day.
Improving Performance Through Surface Control
As systems become more advanced and performance expectations increase, the importance of surface properties continues to grow. Small interactions at the surface level can have large impacts on efficiency, accuracy, and maintenance requirements.
Notak 2000 provides a way to control those interactions. By reducing surface energy and limiting fouling and adhesion, it helps systems operate more cleanly, more consistently, and with less intervention.
From improving heat transfer to enabling better product release, Notak 2000 demonstrates how targeted surface treatments can solve persistent challenges across a wide range of applications.
