SilcoTek at Semicon West: A Recap of Semiconductor Industry Trends

July 19 2024 Semiconductor

SilcoTek's Stephanie Rhodes, Nik Snyder, and Jim Mattzela hosted our booth at Semicon West in San Francisco, CA held by SEMI at the Moscone Center where they experienced first-hand the buzz around what's coming next for the semiconductor industry. The trade show was packed with attendees this year leaving many exhibitors feeling that the show was as busy as it has been in the last several years. Continued talk surrounding the CHIPS Act and the many new fab builds scattered across the US had attendees looking to secure supply chains and find new and innovative solutions to challenges they are facing.

SilcoTek had a wide variety of visitors stop by the booth ranging from OEMs, to parts suppliers and manufacturers, to curious students and the next generation of semiconductor engineers and scientists. Discussions around how SilcoTek coatings can be applied to a wide range of substrates (including ceramics, glasses, stainless steel, aluminum, and superalloys) and how the performance of those coatings lead to a range of both expected (improved corrosion resistance) and un-expected (faster vacuum pumpdown cycles) were had. SilcoTek(R)'s patented technologies are used across the industry to help mitigate corrosion and contamination as well as increase tool up-time and reduce overall cost of ownership.

Those themes continue to resonate throughout the industry. New construction and new advanced processes being on-shored to North America are looking to implement cost effective solutions to maintain state-of-the-art processing as well as control maintenance costs. Existing fabs continue to look to cut costs and remain competitive in the global landscape and utilizing coatings to extend the lifetime of previously 'consumable' parts and, in some cases, create a refurbishment loop on what was once a 'throw-away' part has been a major find for them. SilcoTek(R) has become a leading source for industry-friendly coatings materials for both legacy and bleeding-edge processes.

Even with some of the questions circling the industry about export restrictions, potential trade tariffs, etc., the market continues to look ahead and plan for growth from drivers such as artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles (EV). SilcoTek® coatings will continue to help that push forward and provide the industry with a option to meet its fabrication challenges such as corrosion and high-cost replacement parts.
