SilcoTek's CVD silicon coating process bonds inert, non-reactive coatings like Dursan® and SilcoNert® to the surface.  The chemically inert coatings prevent interaction of the sample with the reactive flow path surface.

SilcoNert 2000 offers part-per-billion sensitivity without costly system redesign or new process development, saving labs time while improving quality.  Field testing or harsh environments like stack testing demand both inertness and durability.  Dursan offers parts-per-million inertness while withstanding corrosive attack.  Making it ideal for process analytical applications.  Comparative testing demonstrates the effectiveness of SilcoNert.  Reactive flow paths (left GC chromatograph) cause peak distortion, lost peaks, and can lead to retesting or test failures.  SilcoNert coated flow paths (right graph) assure complete peak resolution without distortion.

Stainless steel columns and flow paths can interact with the analyte, causing adsorption and poor chromatography.  CVD coatings, like Dursan, create an iron-free bio-inert flow path that minimizes unwanted interaction with proteins, peptides, chelating molecules, and other troublesome analytes.  Benefits of an inert metal-free HPLC column coating include:

  • Metal-free HPLC flow path for improved durability and corrosion resistance, even under extreme pH conditions.
  • Improved peak shape and peak resolution.
  • Improved bio-inertness of frits and other difficult components that cannot be treated by other methods.
  • Enhanced chemical compatibility, even with media like tetrahydrofuran (THF) that challenge PEEK.

Chelating agent analysis demonstrates the benefit of the Dursan coating.  The resolution quality of tetracycline on a stainless steel column (A) showed poor peak shape and response.  The Dursan® coated column (B) significantly improved the peak shape and response.
