A recent study by the University of Houston and Portnoy Environmental Incorporation demonstrates the need for low level mercury detection in urban areas.  The study found seasonal and daily variation in mercury concentrations in urban Houston.

SilcoNert coating allowed the researchers to precisely measure mercury compounds with virtually 100% capture.  The study went on to state: "The sample line was 6m long and composed of Sulfinert® (SilcoNert® 2000) coated stainless steel.  We conducted extensive testing of the passing efficiency of GOM through Sulfinert tubing using permeation sources of Hg Br2 and HgCl2.  This tubing passed these two mercury species with 100% efficiency.  Heating the tubing was not required to attain this high passing efficiency."
